Bloom

An app that teaches people to use food as medicine.

(The ask)

For a class project on inequity in the food system, I set out to explore nutrition and wellness, especially in food deserts.

(The challenge)

Research I found showed that people often keep making the same food choices even when healthier options are right there. Access alone isn’t the answer, so the real question became how to help someone want to choose differently.

(The turn)

Food choices are emotional. Seven user interviews revealed something bigger: most people already use Google as their healthcare system, and most think they’re healthier than they are. Bloom had to be more trustworthy than a search bar and gently show people their blind spots.

(The result)

Wireframes, an app icon and a concept for personalized guidance, progress tracking, reminders and community support, built from what users said they needed.
